Safety is Our Top Priority
Safety is our top priority at North Country Directional Drilling. This includes the safety and well-being of employees, clients, visitors, and the general public. This also includes the prevention of property and equipment damage. We have a dedicated field safety manager who ensures that all our crews are trained in various safety protocols, including OQs, CPR, first aid, and AED utilization. Our team is experienced and well-versed in handling difficult situations in treacherous conditions. We prioritize safety in our projects, taking into account factors such as river crossings and size of the pipeline. We comply with all safety rules and regulations, conduct regular jobsite safety audits, and encourage the reporting of near misses and incidents. We create a culture of safety, organization, and efficiency in every task we undertake.
Every employee is expected to comply with the safety policies of NCDD, the policies of the project owner, and the OSHA and DOT standards. We provide quality service to our clients by promoting strong values on safety, organization, and efficiency in each task. NCDD strives for maximum employee involvement for the safety of the jobsite through:
- Management commitment to safety

- Recognizing near miss & good catches , weekly reports
- 1st rig up/ new job mandatory action
- JSA provided to all employees at start of shift, mid shift, and change of scope
Reporting & Notification
All employees have the responsibility to stop work at any time they feel uncomfortable, unsure, or unsafe about the task. Two-way radios are utilized on the jobsite to allow open communication between the crew members on the site. It is important that each member of the crew is aware of the work being done and hazards. NCDD promotes and expects an employee to stop work if something is unsafe. All employees are required to report to their supervisor any near miss or incident. Jobsite and vehicle incidents or accidents must be reported. This includes any near miss or incident that has caused or has potential to cause injury to a person or cause damage to equipment or property. Any project requirements for notifying the client of incidents will be adhered to by NCDD.
NCDD Jobsite Safety Policies
- Compliance with applicable federal, state, county, city, client, and company safety rules and regulations.
- Employees that are involved in any accident involving personal injury or property damage are required to submit drug testing. Any new hires are required to submit a pre‐employment drug test.
- Hard hats, safety toe boots, safety glasses, and reflective vests are to be worn by all employees on jobsites at all times. Any other PPE such as gloves, face shield, and hearing protections must be worn when required based on the job task.
- Firearms, alcoholic beverages, or illegal drugs are not allowed on NCDD jobsites or in company vehicles.
- Housekeeping is an integral part of the drill site. NCDD supervisors and employees are expected to keep a clean and safe work site.
- Adequate supply of drinking water is kept on each jobsite.
- All tools are to be in good working condition. Defective tools or equipment are not allowed to be used on the jobsite.
- Caution fence is placed around any open pits such as the entry and exit pits.
- Caution signs, fencing, or caution tape is placed on the jobsite to protect visitors or the general public from any hazardous
conditions on the jobsite. - Safety pins or cable lanyards are placed on all high pressure hoses to prevent accidental disconnection.
- Lockout/Tagout procedures are used when working on any of the equipment.
- A JSA is completed each morning and again in the middle of the day at a minimum. More JSA’s are completed for changes in the work scope.
- Adequate lighting will be provided for any work that is performed during low‐light periods or night shifts.
- Equipment inspections are performed each morning.
- All utilities are marked and the locations verified before any drilling or digging begins. Adequate distance from existing utilities will be maintained to eliminate the risk of damage or injury.
- MSDS information is kept on site in the drill cab.
- All employees are required to know the locations of first aid kits, fire extinguishers, and emergency contact numbers.
